Post tour day 1 in Paris-Rodin, Orangerie, Orsay, Willie's Wine Bar, Duc Lombard's
After breakfast we gathered our luggage and walked the couple blocks to our new hotel. I *wish* we had stayed at our last tour hotel but thought it would be fun to try out a new one. I think we just left our bags because our room wasn't ready yet but no matter, we wanted to see more of the museums in Paris. On today's agenda is the Rodin Museum, The Orangerie, and The Orsay. That's a lot of museums so we broke up the day by going to the first two in the morning, having a nice lunch, then going to the Orsay after lunch.
Tonight we stepped out of our comfort zone and found a wine bar that my brother loved when he visited Paris a few years ago. Then we ventured out to a jazz club! Our original plans were to go to the jazz club with Vickie and Tom but they spent the day at Versailles and when I didn't hear from them, we went out on our own....miscommunication on my par . The jazz club required advanced purchase so I bought our tickets while we were in line to enter (thank God for smart phones)! We used the metro tickets to get to each place and didn't have too much trouble finding Willie's Wine Bar and Duc Lombard's at all.
Post tour day 2 in Paris-Versailles and Montmartre Walk
After breakast we hoofed it to the station to catch the RER to Versailles. We wanted to arrive way before the opening time because we had heard the lines can get painful. Good new.....we arrived quite early and even had to wait for the Starbucks (across the street from the station) to open for breakfast. We saw a bus pull into the parking lot at Versailles and wanted to get to the gate before they did but no luck. Still, we were pretty close to the front. This is a good thing because by the time they opened the gates the line had already doubled up and around! We spent some time in the main buildings then went out to the gardens so we could see the fountains come to life with orchestrated music. It did not disappoint. We got in line to get a golf cart so we could drive around but we didn't bring our driver's license......a couple from Australia was behind us in line and invited us to drive along with them. So much fun meeting new people in a place that was new to all of us. After our hour long golf cart ride we walked to the station and traveled back to our hotel. This was our last full day in Paris as we were flying out in the a.m. and there was another thing we wanted to do... to see Sacre Coeur and Montmartre. We took the metro and did just that. It was so easy following Rick Steves walking tour from the France book. I had it on my phone and it was step by step easy to follow! We had pre-purchased Eiffel Tower tickets and our time was in the late afternoon so we found some lunch while in Montmartre (the restaurant from the movie Amelie). From Montmartre we took the metro to the Eiffel Tower and checked in for our 4:30 time slot. I'm glad we did went up in the tower, if only this one time....I don't feel like we need to do it again but it sure was fun, albeit crowded! After going up the tower we ate dinner at the same restaurant we had our farewell dinner a couple nights before.
We were pretty beat after a long day of lots of walking so after dinner we went back to the hotel to pack up all of our things. We arranged a taxi to Charles de Gaulle airport in the a.m. via the hotel. What a trip!
Travel day home
We were picked up at 6 am for a 10 am flight home.....only when we got to the airport we learned our flight home was delayed several hours. Bummer, but I suppose there are worse places to be stuck!
